Design Calculation of Induction Furnace (Work Coil)

The induction furnace are widely used for melting a wide variety of metals with minimum melt losses because of good heating efficiency, high production rate and clean working environments. The induction furnace has two main portions. They are coil design and power supply. This paper describes the calculation of mechanical and electrical design of work coil for induction furnace, having a capacity of 1000kg iron. In this induction furnace, helical coil type is more suitable for metal melting. The induction coil is made of copper tubing and usually cooled by circulating water. In this paper, presents design of work coil, the shape and the number of turns of the coil. The size of coil depends on the weight of melting metal and the power supply. The mechanical and electrical design of work coil was achieved through consideration of relevant theories and their practical application. A good work coil design reduces power requirement and causes good efficiency.
