Effect of Leaching Times on Silica Percent and Average Crystalline Size from Toddy Leaves Ash by Organic Acid Leaching Treatment

ABSTRACT
 
 This research has been carried out to extract silica from toddy palm leaves ash. In this study, the environmentally benign and economically effective process to produce silica from toddy leaves ash has been established by using citric acid leaching not conventional strong acids. The silica content of the product samples was characterized using X-Ray fluorescence (EDXRF), X-Ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis. The highest silica content (76.98%) and average crystalline size (50.65nm) were produced at leaching time(120min),leaching temperature (70ºC) and leaching acid concentration(6%) by Toddy leaves ash.
