Study on the Behaviours of Nickel Plating

ABSTRACT
 
 The paper presents the texture and thickness of the nickel plating depending on the current density, temperature, time and electrolyte. The electrolyte is Watts type bath containing nickel sulfate, nickel chloride, boric acid and brightener. Nickel electrodeposition was carried out using five different values of current density. The main important factors of nickel plating include adhesion or peeling off, and pitting on layer. By using Faraday’s law, the electrodeposition time and thickness were calculated. According to the research, the best surface morphologies are obtained between the current densities 4 A/dm2 and 6 A/dm2. The resulted samples are examined by corrosion test, adhesion test, microscopic examination and SEM analysis.
