Optimization of Activated Carbon Preparation from Waste Tires for Colour Removal

This paper was conducted to decolourize from textile waste water using activated carbon prepared from waste tires. Activated carbon was prepared with various phosphoric acid (H3PO4) concentration, temperature and impregnation phosphoric acid (H3PO4) ratio. The response surface methodology (RSM) technique was used for the valuable parameters of the preparation of activated carbon such as phosphoric acid (H3PO4) concentration of 50% to 70%, temperature of 500°C to 800°C and impregnation phosphoric acid mass ratio of 1 to 5. The optimum condition for preparation of activated carbon were obtained from phosphoric acid concentration of 61%, waste tires and phosphoric acid mass ratio of 1:3.3 and carbonization temperature of 716°C respectively and these condition obtained 59% of optimum colour removal.
