Design and Implementation of an MPPT Solar Charge Controller for Standalone Photovoltaic (PV) System

This paper proposes an efficient MPPT solar charge controller designed to extract the optimum power from the photovoltaic module for battery charging. Nowadays Solar energy plays a vital role in renewable energy resources. An effective way of using a solar energy is photovoltaic generation. Electricity can be produced from sunlight by a PV cell. The PV system has some weak points very low conversion efficiency and the amount of generated power is varies depending on the environmental conditions. The output characteristics of the PV system are non-linear and which lead far away from the optimal point (Maximum Power Point) under weather conditions. Solar charge controller also plays an important role in the PV system. Hence Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) techniques are required to improve the efficiency of the system. Many MPPT algorithms have been developed to track the maximum power from the PV module. The proposed system is designed an efficient MPPT solar charge controller with Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm since it is sufficient efficiency and less complexity. This paper have been implemented the hardware prototype of MPPT solar charge controller.
