Remote Data Monitoring of Solar Photovoltaic System Based on Internet of Things

In this paper, the Internet of Things (IoT) Technology is used to monitor the solar photovoltaic (PV) panel parameters and power generation because it can obtain better performance and timely maintenance. In most solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are installed in different locations. In order to ensure photovoltaic (PV) modules in good performance and optimum power output, photovoltaic (PV) system should be regularly monitored and evaluated. The aim of this work is to reduce cost, develop and test low cost IoT system for remote photovoltaic (PV) data monitoring system using open source microcontroller (Arduino) and generous open sources API (ThingSpeak-Internet of Things Platform). The remote data monitoring system is equipped with voltage sensor, current sensor (ACS712) which is need to monitor the data of current and voltage of the solar photovoltaic (PV) panel, temperature sensor (LM35) and light sensor (LDR) which is need to monitor for knowing the level of sunlight intensity and the values of temperature of the surrounding at the project site. GSM SIM808 module is also used for data transmission which is interfaced to Arduino Uno board and sends data to an open source website (thingspeak.com) via internet connection. ThingView (ThingSpeak viewer) mobile app is also used for this system that can view the ThingSpeak data.
